About the author

 

George Drever has had a long and varied life in business.  A qualified banker, he spent seven years with RBS followed by a year with Ernst & Young specialising in corporate and personal insolvency.  In 1992 he made the life-changing decision to step off the corporate path and open a restaurant with his then wife, despite having very little money and even less experience of the catering trade.  A baptism of fire ensued, culminating in the successful sale of the business as a going concern six years later.  The business is still trading.

 

The following two years were spent as a business adviser with Highlands & Islands Enterprise, before he left to pursue his next business venture - a purpose-built tenpin bowling centre.  This was a rollercoaster of significant success followed by an unforseen downturn that resulted in the eventual closure of the business.  It was during this period that George started exploring the possibilities offered by capturing customer data and using newly-emerging technologies such as email and text message marketing.

 

Now equipped with hard-won business experience and practical knowledge, George had two years as a business adviser with Scottish Enterprise. Meeting with hundreds of businesses led to a growing awareness of the need for an outsourced database marketing service.  The resultant company, Contact Marketing Solutions Ltd, has clients throughout central Scotland that include Heineken UK Ltd, Mar Hall, the Mhor Group, and the Montgomery Hotel Group.  

 

George is also an associate of hospitality and tourism consultancy The Collection Ltd, a member of the Barclays Bank 'Panel of Experts' and delivers occasional training seminars for Scottish Enterprise on database marketing.
